Across the Owl's Head Bay lies Monroe Island, a 225 acre preservation dedicated to conserving the wildlife, dense evergreen forest, and scenic shoreline. Until 2018 it was privately owned by the Faunae family who managed the islands forestry and wildlife sanctuary. They sold it to the Maine Coast Heritage Trust in order to permanently protect the island and ensure public access for camping and hiking.

I was shooting the Owl's Head Lighthouse, when I turned around saw this view. It was so picturesque. The overcast day providing a soft light perfectly reflecting on the water and creating deep shadows along the island tree line. As a single sailboat passed through the harbor, I imagined they were out fishing, or enjoying one of the last days of the season before its too cold. It made for such a peaceful and beautiful black and white image.
