The Maroon Bells are probably one of the most photographed landmarks in Colorado, and there is good reason for that. They are truly magnificent! This was my first winter after moving to Colorado and I was so excited to get out and explore! Growing up in Southern California I rarely encountered snow, seeing this much was captivating. I'll never forget the hot sun and crisp cold air on my skin, it was one of those winter days where you hike with just a long sleeve shirt... but instantly need your jacket when you stop. The lake's glass refection perfectly mirrors every detail of the beautiful peaks reaching into the sky at 14,000ft. The surrounding slopes draped with evergreens and aspens creating a natural frame. The contrast of rock and snow make for a beautiful black and white image.
