The Nights Eye 1 - Owl's Head Lighthouse, Maine - Framed Print

The Nights Eye 1 - Owl's Head Lighthouse, Maine - Framed Print

from $76.98

The Owl's Head light was constructed in 1825. Due to the towering cliff it's built on the lighthouse itself didn't need to be very tall, even being so short it stands 100' above the waters surface. There seems to be some debate on the tower, but records state it was replaced or rebuilt in 1852. Nobody really knows why it was named Owl's head, maybe because it's stature looks like an owl from the water, maybe because it is perched so high up. But for me, it's goal is to guide ships in the night, help you see in the dark, much like an owls superior night vision. In a way it has The Nights Eye.

I shot this on my 41st birthday, it was a beautiful day driving up the coast of Maine. We stopped for lobster rolls, shopping, cocktails, and of course hiking. We spent a lot of our time at this spot, there were so many beautiful views and our dog loved exploring all the new sniffs! You'll find a lot of shots from this day in my shop, it was one of those days where every spot held inspiration.
